How to Add Beam Pockets

Updated April 1, 2026

You can add beam pockets to any wall in your structure using RedX Walls.

Adding a Beam Pocket

  1. Open the House Tools and scroll down to find Add Beam Pocket.
  2. Review the properties — height from the bottom of the wall, number of studs, etc.
  3. Tap Add to Wall and select the wall you want to place it on.
  4. Reposition by selecting the beam pocket and dragging it, or tap the measurement to enter an exact distance.

Beam Pocket Settings

Select the beam pocket and tap Edit to customize:

  • Height from bottom of wall — the vertical distance from the subfloor up (e.g. 5 feet). Updates in real time.
  • Number of studs — the inner studs in the pocket.
  • Jack stud material — choose between 2x4, 2x6, etc.
  • Left/right studs — toggle whether to add a stud on each side.
  • Jack stud orientation — sideways or standard. When sideways, choose flush to front, centered, or flush to back of wall.

Viewing Both Sides

To see the beam pocket from the other side of the wall, open Manage Layers and hide the wall sheeting, siding, and trims.
