How to Create a Lean-To Roof
Updated April 1, 2026
A lean-to (or shed-style) roof has only one sloping side. Here's how to create one in RedX Walls.
Steps
- Create the outline of your building.
- Open Roof Tools and tap Auto-Generate Roof — this creates a hip roof by default.
- Select each roof side you want to flatten and tap Convert to Gable.
- Convert all roof sides except one to gables. This leaves only one side sloping, creating the lean-to shape.
Adjusting the Roof Angle
- Select the remaining sloped roof side and change the pitch (e.g. 4/12).
- You can switch to degrees mode if you prefer working with angles instead of pitch.
- As you edit the roof angle, the walls automatically adjust their height to match.
Height Above Plate
In the roof settings, the Height Above Plate value controls how high the roof starts above the wall top plate. This stays consistent on both sides of the structure to keep everything aligned.
